Ngarandhi Project
The Ngarandhi* Project aims to promote good sexual health practices amongst the young of the local Aboriginal community using an education program provided by a group of peer educators under the guidance of their coordinator.
The project is mainly focused on the 16 – 25 year old age group within the La Perouse area but information is available to other interested persons regardless of age or address. By providing the peer exchanged information on sexual health the aim is to assist the young people to become empowered and informed to make appropriate sexual health choices and decisions and to know where they can access further information.
Another objective of the project is for SESDGP to coordinate and deliver cultural awareness and sensitivity training to the GPs and Medical Centre staff in and around the South Eastern Sydney area. The aim is that there will be an increase in practices providing a culturally appropriate health service to Aboriginal patients.
The ultimate aim of the project is to facilitate the opening of a local Aboriginal youth health GP clinic within La Perouse. The fully bulk billed, GP clinic commenced 11th June 2010 and is open at the community health centre at Elaroo Avenue, La Perouse every Friday between 3 - 5pm.
